Ever seen on of these?

Hi Guys,

I was metal detecting in a small river today here in Bedford County VA and come across this. It looks like some sort or hatchet with a pick on one side. It's about nine inches long and three inches across. Have any of you seen one of these before?

I've seen something like that called an 'ice axe'. I don't know if that is what your is or not. hopefully someone here will know for sure

i believe it is a trenching tool. ive seen them come from civil war garrisons here in louisiana.
