Isn't alcohol a major ingredient in most of the old time remedies?

Most of the old time medications did have good quantities of alcohol in them, and some had narcotics and cocaine.

Very common even today in herbal medicine.
The alcohol is used to extract the plant material..
if the alcohol isn't removed by heat to make an oil..
then you have a alcohol tincture.

Mmmm. Sounds pretty good. 47% alcohol, cinnamon, anise, orange peel.

Mother's little helper before the little yellow pills. ;-)

Reminds me of those elixirs featured in the old Sears and Roebuck catalogs. Interesting stuff!

But does it deter chiggers and mosquitos ?
