I have noticed on several occasions people talking about upgrading their coils from the 10" to the 15" wot coil. I would like some information on how and where I can have this done. My detector is still under warranty will that counsel the warranty? Also what does the wot stand for. Will the detector perform much better? Thanks for any help you can give me. This is my third post and each time you have helped so much. Thank you very much.

VA BEACH MAX

VA BEACH MAX CAN HELP YOU I BET!!!! HE USES THIS COIL LOVES IT DEEP!

The coil is made by Coiltek. They make several aftermarket coils for the Minelab machines. WOT stands for Wonderful Orange Thing, a nickname that was given to the coil. Click on the link below to find some information on the coil. I bought one for my Sovereign Elite and it took some getting used to but one day, the light came on and I understood what it was trying to tell me. It is a little different in that it does go really deep but the really deep signals to me were much different than the traditional Sovereign signals. Once I realized that, I started finding some really deep targets.

I am not sure what benefit you would get in the surf from it other than being able to cover a larger area. The reason I say this, is because I have found that you can only dig so deep in the surf. Once I get past a certain depth with my PI machine, I can't dig any further anyway because the hole keeps filling itself in. I can usually recover targets at a modest depth but I am not sure that you could recover a target in the surf at the deepest depths that the WOT could find them. I am talking 18 to 24 inches on a coin. If you have had no trouble in doing so in the past, then I would say go for it. I phyiscally can't recover items from that depth. I can on dry sand at the beach and in the field when I relic hunt. That is why I added it to my arsenal for my Sovereign. I would believe that the 10 inch coil that comes on the Excalibur would be ideal and remember that your machine is set up specifically for that coil optimally.

Here is the link. I am sure some Excalibur users can give you some pros and cons of the thought process.

DaChief nailed it again.

Minelab used to install others coils, but I don't know it the policy has changed.

I talked to Minelab about this before, they will install the WOT if you send it to them and if the ML Detector is under warranty they will still honor it, if coil is not installed by ML the warranty is voided if the work is not done by ML.
