I bought the extra battery pack that you can put regular batteries in. But why is there a warning to not put rechargeable batteries into this battery pack? I'm not battery smart I guess, haha, and just don't understand what the difference is I guess. I haven't tried it and probably never will, but I am one of those curious minds that just has to know WHY!!!!?!?!??!?! :):):)

Thanks guys and gals!

My best guess is that if you put eight rechargeable batteries in there, 8 x 1.2 volts would give you a total of 9.6 volts output. The Excalibur clearly needs 12 Volts to operate properly and you would need 10 rechargeables to give that output.

Yeah, but aren't 8 regular alkaline batteries just 1.2 volts each?

regular batteries are 1.5 look on the side of the battery 8 batteries = 12 volts

Ok, thanks! I guess I just never looked! Makes perfect sense to me now, though!

Although I do use rechargeable batteries in my alkaline battery pack with my explorer and have never had a problem using them in it.

I went to allbattery.com and got the 2/3 AA with tabs. Took them to a hobby shop and they attached them and they fit into the Minelab pac. Work great and a lot cheaper with no memory

You are alot better off using the batteries Minelab recommends. Anything less could void your warranty. The best way to go is with a NIMH pack. Lasts forever it seems between charges and I use mine a lot.

The NIMH packs will be at 12 v when fully charged i use venom 2400 mAh rechargabal batters AAs.I have used them for 2 years NO problems, just got new ones for the new SE.

I just ran on this thread since I have a Exp II. If you looked at the packs that Minlab sends they say 9.6v on the back... and really I just open one and they have 8 reachargable AA inside... so there you go ... thats no difference than putting 8 rechargables on the AA version of the pack. :D

If they let you use rechargeable batteries in the packs they will not be able to sell you the $100 packs they sell.
I have a Excal and love it but $100 for a battery pack is just a rip off. THANKS MINELAB !!!!!!!!

I believe the exp.II is a diffrent voltage than the excalibur. I have a minelab Elite an the rechargable pack on it says 12 volts.
