I picked up a $500 box of halves today and found the following:
-22 40%ers
-3 90%ers including a 1917 walking liberty half

A few of the rolls had 2 silver coins in them and even one with 3. There were also a whopping four enders in the box.

Here are some pics (the first pic has the enders, second pic is the best roll I got, third pic is all the halves together, and the fourth pic is the 1917):

Yup, thanks! I have 2 boxes ordered for next Saturday.

The 1917 might be worth more than melt if the condition is good. I just sold an 1899 O Barber half in XF condition for $100 at the local shop. I found it in a CWR of Halves.

great score!!

Love the pics :icon_thumright:

1917? 1917-D? 1917-S? Where's the mintmark if any?

That's a great score for just one box - did you check the WL for a reverse mint mark?

I just looooove looking @ all those silver edges! thanks for the pics!

Yes I looked for the mintmark and it was a "w"

Nice pics! You could have a future as a hand model.

No - The "w" you are referring to isn't the mint mark - I think it might be the designer's initials - all WL's have this. The mint mark if any would be on the reverse near the rim @ about the 8 O'clock area. Here's the mintage figures for all the 1917's::

1917: 12,292,000
1917-D (Obv.): 765,400
1917-D (Rev.): 1,940,000
1917-S (Obv.): 952,000
1917-S (Rev.): 5,554,000

Continued good luck and HH!

The coin's obverse and reverse was designed by Adolph A. Weinman and his mark, "AAW," appears under the eagle's wing feathers on the reverse.

Mintmarks were located on the obverse under 'In God We Trust' for all 1916 and some 1917 issues. In April of 1917 the mintmark was moved to the reverse. It is located to the lower left of 'half dollar' along the rim at the 8 o'clock position.

The 1917 variety had the mint mark on the obverse for some and the reverse for others. That goes for all the mints in 1917. That is the name behind the 1917 reverse and 1917 obverse. I am not a coin expert yet, it is just I started my Walker Dansco book and filled those holes right from the start....
