Detector(s) used
Minelab Explorer SE, Ace 250, Vibra-Probe 560
I am set on upgrading to Minelab, so can anyone tell me the main differences in the 2. I have a friend that swears by his SE and he is definatly finding stuff with it that my Ace 250 has trouble. I can swing the extra money, but it would be really nice to only spend the 300 less if the machine is almost as good. From what I can read on the specs, they are pretty close to the same except for some of the imaging.

It will be used for mainly relic hunting with some schoolyard coinshooting thrown in.

Thanks

Forget the Quatro, you would be better off getting a Explorer2. There is no performance difference between the EX2 and the SE. both go as deeply. You can bet if you shopped around you could find a new EX2 in some of the dealers or even a near new one for a good price. good luck Seeya Neilo

I am in the same position. I have decided to upgrade to a Minelab because I like my sister's X-30 so much. So the EX II is the way to go? What is the main difference between the EX II and SE?

the SE is slightly faster that the EX 2. the SE`s coil is a little lighter, the SE is a little easier to navigate and learn that the EX 2. other than that, they are pretty much the same machine.

Ditto, Ditto. The SE not only processes the info faster, it displays it in an easier manner so it is easy to understand. I thought the learning curve was easy too, but then I am used to Minelabs. If you never detected before it might be strange but still easier than having experience with a different machine and you keep second guessing what the SE or even the II is telling you.

Good Luck

u could try for a used explorer xs. i got mine with sunray probe for $500,basically same as other 2 models (just as deep) and u would save hundreds....hh...jb

I think you should keep your 250. You can use it as a pin pointer when yor friend digs with his SE. HA! j/k. : :o :o

Oh, that is pretty funny considering that friend's SE is your's. Hey it worked out pretty good, we found a Civil War Union spur that way. ha ah

The SE is the latest Explorer version and the way to go in my mind. The Quattro is a bit quirky and the SE will definitely go deeper. The EXII is also a good detector but not readily avbailble any more. To me the upgrades to navigation and easier to use makes the SE again the way to go. If I can help you with your purchase please let me know.

Sorry, but this is simply not true! Some of my friends are using Explorer's. There is no difference in "detecting deep"...Only difference = recovery speed. Most of the times I'm searching in relative clean fields and i don't need this "speed and bells" :P

Sorry for my english.
