Last weekend I visited some friends in another town. On the way there and back I noticed several older mobile homes that had the exterior metal removed. This is the first time I have ever seen that done. Most people just let them sit forever. Metal prices must be way up. Is the skin on mobile homes aluminum or steel?

I believe they are aluminum.

Most are aluminum and you will average $120.00 for it. I just tore one down.

Hello Jay,

I'm working on one right now. Tore out the plumbing & probably half of the wiring so far. How many lbs of AL did you get out of the siding, since AL prices seem to vary greatly around the country. Also did you cut up the trailer frame & axles?

Thanks,
TJ

I would like to hear how much total you guys make off of tearing these down. I used to sell mobile homes and we always had people asking about having a trailer moved. It is very expensive and you have to have a place to move it to. So it is a big issue for people. I have been thionking of tearing down a coupel as a test to see hw much money could be made. I figure you could charge a fee to remove it at a price chaeper than it could be moved and get all the money from recyleing everything you could. Including the lumber. Most of the walls are 2X3's but could be sold used for people who are building out buildings or any number of things.

Anyway any info you guys get on estimates would be cool. Good luck and happy hunting:-)

Years ago I lived in a mobile home and I would always get flyers from people wanting to buy my axles for $100 each.

Tj, there was 240 pounds in the siding and I did cut the frame and axles got $110.00 for the steel. I charged $4000.00 to tear it down and dispose of it. Took 2 guys 7 days to complete. The scrap metal paid for the landfill for the stuff I could not burn. Paid my helper $700.00. Profit approx. $3300.00.

Why would anyone pay $4000.00 to get a mobile home torn down, when they could get it hauled away for a few hundred?

moving them is not as easy as it might seem. Have you ever tried to get a 40 ft x 12 ft trailer out from between two others with a carport and shed attached?
Then, you have to get it on the road to wherever you are taking it. Sorry, but they aren't easier to move.

This mobile home was put in place back in the early 70's since then there was a garage built wich blocked the only way to get it out. Around here I get $1000.00 just to unblock and move one.

It's done every day. Talk to any trucker. Of course you have to detach porches/carports. 40x12 is a small trailer.
