50+ miles apart from a hunt in Baltimore Co. Thursday to one in Queen Anne Co. today, and in both, I dug a cuff button with the backmark "EXTRA RICH R.J. & CO." Best find from the first hunt is a no-date Classic Head LC and the best from today's hunt: an 1853 seated quarter and a George II Hibernia halfpenny.

Wow!!!! You're killing 'em McCDig. That seated is a beauty. Nice handful of other goodies too. Congrats!

That quarter is beautiful...Wow! :occasion14:

Thanks Squirrel1322. That’s the oldest silver coin I’ve dug from that farm field.

Thanks, Tommy. I think that R.J. & Co. was a button maker from England. I did see an online example of a military button from the Seminole Wars period that has the same backmark, so the cuff buttons I dug probably date from the 1830s. That are slightly different in size. My guess is that R.J & Co made a lot of buttons in their day.

Thanks, RVRoamer66. We had a couple of productive hunts. I do like finding relics. Chased a good bit of can slaw in the process.

Thanks, Professor. The first side of the coin I saw was the reverse. We had a good bit of rain on Friday and there was a little bit of water that ponded on the farm field, which made for a convenient spot to swish the newly dug find.
