Failure

holy crap that's aweosme

Been that way for several years now, and Google can't fix it without completely restructuring the way their search engine works. It goes by keywords, and anyone can type in whatever keywords they want to attach to their site. There was a movement afoot through the blogs, and sure enough now when you search for failure, there it is. ;)

I can't believe they would even put George W. on the same page as Michael Moore. :( :( :(

It seems to me that google does it intentionally, "Failure" doesn't appear in the text of that page... anywhere. It's a publicity stunt... and it works! ;) Just my 2¢!

it is strange to me that this page does not list "failure" in any of the meta tags, yet, it ranks as topic numero uno. also the search term you use to find particular sites doesn't necessarily need to appear in the body of the page. right click the page you are viewing, select view source, and in the meta tags section you should see a list of keywords. not all engines use metas and not all engines care what is in the body.

then again i don't really care because i can't stand him anyway. let his image sit at the top ofthe charts and rot....

It's not just the keywords that googler uses.. If the word shows up anywhere on the page, google will flag it.. Try loading the Cached page, and it will highlight the key word you are searching for, and it's rarely one of the listed keywords
In 'this' case google says the word ONLY appears in links 'pointing' to the Bush page..
Google explains it like this

If you do a Google search on the word [failure] or the phrase [miserable failure], the top result is currently the White House’s official biographical page for President Bush. We've received some complaints recently from users who assume that this reflects a political bias on our part. I'd like to explain how these results come up in order to allay these concerns.
