Detector(s) used
AT-Pro - Teknetics T2 LTD
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
I received my new T-2 LTD detector on Wed. and my brother in-law came over to see it. He wanted to go check it out so I've been researching where the old fair grounds were in my area and came up with 5 locations starting in 1887 to 1963. The closest one had a fair from 1949 to 1957. We headed out under threat of rain. He used my AT Pro and I tried out the T-2. there was a lot of junk but not 10 minutes after we started he let out a yell and came up with a standing liberty quarter. We hunted for around 3 hrs until it started a down pour. All together we found some mercury dimes, 2 standing liberty quarters a couple of Washington quarters and some pennies from the 30's - 40's.

Thurs. we went back and tried again. What a site! I was sore from bending and digging but I didn't care. It seemed every 5 minutes I would get a good signal and dig. Most of the finds were 6" - 8" deep and a couple 3" - 4". It started pouring again so we left after about 3 hrs. wet and tired.

Today Fri. We went back and although it was drizzling out we hunted. Not as many finds and I passed up more than a few signals that weren't real strong because my back hurts. I like the T-2 better than the AT Pro because of the different sounds but pinpointing is much more difficult. The T-2 also goes deeper than the Pro because I asked him to double check a couple of holes for me and the Pro didn't pick up any signal.

Below is the silver we found. We washed them all up and sat with beers looking at them laughing. The pennies will have to go into a tumbler because they are really covered in grit and corrosion. The most interesting part is we did not find 1 Rosie. We now have 4 more sites to hunt and tomorrow we are going to the next one. I think I'll need a few of my pain pills....

Coins found.webp

LOL.... We were so excited I didn't even look. I guess the brother in-law found it.... but it looks to be on my side.... I''ll check in the morning... His side was the 2 Washington quarters on the right up to the 2 standing liberty quarters. I'm sure he missed a few because he never used the ATP before. He did have a pile of junk in his pouch... After awhile every dime looked like a Mercury... This is a site I need to get back to when the weather calms down and I can take my time. A lot of trash but also good signals in between and weak signals that could be deep. One of the standing liberty quarters was down at least 8" and gave a weak signal because it was almost on its edge. I'm sure there's more and sooner or later I''m going back to find them. I guess no one who knows how to detect and has a good machine has hit this spot. Just goes to show what a little research can do....

Congrats on all the silver. I think I would stay there and grid the area and work the doggy doo out of it.

Well, there are 4 more sites even older so I'm going to hit them first and then start over. This site was a BIG surprise because it's in town and should have been detected long ago. A couple of the other sites have a building now on them but still some grass areas. Plus there are sidewalks that led to the fair with grass. I also found a parking lot that people used to park to walk to the fair so it should be a good summer. The reason I started researching fairs was the best site I ever hunted was on an old fair grounds and produced a lot of old silver. The silver produced on this site pales with what I found on another site. I'm hoping the next 4 sites produce the same or more silver.

Well, we went to site #2 today and it was pasted with no trespassing signs. So on the way there we saw 2 empty lots with foundations so we hunted them. Nothing but trash. My brother in-law found a smashed mason jar and got all kinds of signals. After digging for 30 minutes he found a pile of old buttons. We also found a few wheat pennies and 1 Rosie dime. Of course the afternoon rain came and sent us home. On to site #3 next week.

You gotta get permission for that site! Can you use County property records to track down the owner and ask permission?

This is an incredible haul. I gotta nominate this for banner for your research, hard work and quantity of goods. Way to go!!
