Looks good to me... just my opinion from here.

Welcome to Tnet.

I have significant doubts, I'm afraid. There are numerous fakes of these coins. A genuine one should weigh 7.97g but fakes are also made to match that weight. Below is a genuine example alongside one of the many fakes, with yours above. There are many varieties of fake which usually have differences in detail from genuine coins but note in particular: the positions of the stars at the tips of the eagle feathers and the alignment of the scrollwork relative to the 'M' of 'MARK'.

If it is fake it might still be gold, but more likely gold clad onto a tungsten core (if the weight is correct).

Good call RC... i for one have never encountered one of these before.
My opinion is based on the overall look / color / other indications.
It has the general look of being gold based on that FROM HERE anyway.

Looks legit to me just on the pic alone but nice work Red-coat. I used CoinSnap to look it up but just goes to show you have to be really careful about fakes.

Does your grandpa have any paperwork that goes with the coin?
If he is still around, can he give you the backstory on how he obtained the coin?
Don......
