At the end of last week Cru'dad spend just over 2 hours on the failed oilseed rape field with only 1 leather mount to show, so today we switched back to Fan's Site.
Sticky ankle breaker with strong wind & rain - we felt pretty hardcore today.:tongue3:
In these conditions just over 3 hours was plenty, but the result was still excellent;

16 Roman Bronze Coins
Medieval Buckle Plate
Leather Mount
Roman Bronze Cube with various odd symbols on them. Can't find an ID!
1st C AD Fibula (Brooch) - I knew this was a first for us but I had no idea it can't be IDed in any of my books! (must be a rare variant)
Hammered Halfpenny of Ed III
Roman Silver Plated Denarius of Vitellius AD69 (less than a year) - Tripod with Dolphin above. New Emperor for us, 1 a year is a good year & if this one was complete its a £300+ coin!

Fine relic and coin hunt, congratulations! :occasion14:

This is what I call hunting. Great. The bronze cube is a late Roman or Byzantine trade weight!

All that hard work pays off again.
Great hunt

Are you sure? Any links? Weight crossed my mind but I've never seen one that is a cube. (It has different patterns on every side)

Great finds!!

Hey - at least you didn't get snowed on today! Nice finds!

Can’t find an ID on a couple items?! Now that’s a good day bruddah! Im loving that plated Denarius. What are the other patterns on the cube?

Wow cru I am always so amazed at the stuff you find I wish I had that kind of history here I think I would build a cabin on that site and hunt day in and day out I have made many display cases if you have any old coin one that you consider scrap that you would ever sell or trade for some silver coins hit me up. Thanks for always sharing your great finds you deserve them and I know you work very hard. I got the AT MAX for a New Years gift and the snow has been too deep to get out I'm very sad!!!!!!! But soon Great job!!!!!!!

As always.....amazing!--JB

Every side is different. Some are not easy to see, a couple look like spiders webs.

Great hunt under difficult conditions. The cube is fascinating. Look forward to a definate I.D.

Congrats on some cool finds! I love medieval silver

You did well again. Looks like Fan's site has more to give as you thought first. :icon_thumleft:
I found this when checking for the Fibula:
Byzantine trade weight
Zwei byzantinische Bronzegewichte

You surely know Almgren, have a look at Group III or Group VI, difficult to say without a side picture of the Fibula.
Almgren Typisierung | Mittelalter Wiki | FANDOM powered by Wikia
Firstly those byzantine period weights are flat, not cubed & there is no way this site continued into that period, so I've yet to see a cubed version of any date.

The Almgren are Germanic derived brooches that we commonly class as 'P' types but I see no matches. It has very little curve on it & these Almgren type of which the Grp III is the closest are 2nd C AD & have a different pin mechanism, compared to my 1st C AD type.

Thanks for looking but at this point I'm calling it unidentified.

Well worth the ankle twisting detecting Cru, congrats on the Fib, silver, and the cube. The stars were aligned for you on this outing, congrats. Will be watching for the IDs on the two items you get them.
