Farm hunts with crazyjarhead

I was happy to be invited up to Marysville, OH to detect with my buddy Ron. He has permission to detect several old farms and has made a lot of nice finds including Indians, tokens and silver. He found a half dime last year and an 1839 seated dime this year. After 30-plus years of detecting I have yet to dig a half dime. I cruised up from Dayton and we headed out in my Jeep to site #1. This was the site of an old Victorian home that was torn down years ago. The grass was high and wet, but I worked my way over to a couple giant oaks. The only sounds I heard all around those trees was the occasional car passing by. I then worked my way back to where the house once stood and began digging lots of melted globs of various metal. Did I say they tore down the house? Most likely it was burned down. We decided to head for another permission where the grass is kept cut and neat. This place had previously been detected by someone in the owner's family. Not expecting much, I tuned up my CZ-5 and headed into the large lawn. On the side of the house in an open area near some lilacs, I heard a nice solid coin reading with some depth. I dug down about 5 inches and pulled out a coin looking to be the size of a nickel, yet I knew it was not. I've dug 2 cent coins before and I knew that's what it would be if it weren't a token or foriegn coin. Sure enough it was an 1866 2 center with great detail. Ron soon dug an 1890 Indian and very little else showed. We then moved on to the next site. We drove down a long dirt/gravel road to where a house once set. Not long after turning on my detector I dug a really nice 1883 Indian next to the lane. Ron dug a wheat or two and a 50 cent play money coin. Next site was an old farm where the barns and tree lined drive remained. This is where Ron found his 1839 dime. It was kinda growed up and was hunted to death, no new finds to speak of. We breaked for lunch and went back to another old home I had hunted before with him. I got a crotal bell and some clad and Ron scored a cigar token from Cinci. We then tried one small house without much luck and dug in an old dump. We found lots of good broken stuff in the dump and will need to go back one day. On the return trip we drove down an abandoned railway and crossed a trustle. Saw some nice insulators along the way. The 2 center is much nicer than the scan reveals.

A HAM operator lives (or lived) at that white house (note the big beam antenna). They (we) drop money on obscure gear all the time...hopefully that one dropped a bunch in his yard!

I went up there to detect those old farms with the hope that I'd find some obsolete denominations(wow, there's my long word quota for the day). I was hoping for a 3 cent silver, half dime or a half cent, as I've found neither. But I'll take a 2 center.
