Hey guys! I found something in my backyard about 5-7 inches down. It is pretty rusted, but I cannot see any identifying marks. At first I thought it looked like an old vacuum or squeegee. It is pretty heavy, though. Does anyone have an idea of what this might be?

Hello Sadie, and welcome to Tnet.

Your pics are a bit small. With my bad eyes, can't click the pics to enlarge. Looks like it was a "fun" dig!! :laughing9:

Looks like the business end of an old canister vacuum to me.

Maybe a metal roller sponge mop?
Looks like a wingnut on top (1st pic).
Some (a few, anyway) roller mops are configured that way - but I wouldn't expect them to be super-heavy, even if an industrial style mop. :dontknow:

Hard to really tell, but it puts me in mind of a saw vise, to hold a hand saw while you sharpen it.

I added some higher resolution photos to the original post. Thanks!

I think it's one of those old metal ringer mops they used to have foam on there and you pull the handle and it squeezes the water out.

I agree Dirtminer, I vaguely remember using one to mop our kitchen floor when I was a kid.
