Faulty Excalibur II ?

Hello again, I recently made a post about recently buying a used Excalibur II. I've taken it outside to the front yard to test it and I've noticed that no matter what settings I try I can't get that "hum" that. In PP to be able to hear any threshold, even when the coil is hanging off the bed, I have to turn it about half way and I'll start to hear the sporadic threshold but not continuous. When I turn it about 80% you can hear the threshold at all times but you can tell that it is getting a little bit of interference. In Disc mode it's almost impossible to get a constant threshold sound, I have to almost max it and it's really loud. The volume knob seems to effect only the sound it makes when there is metal in front of it, not the threshold sound. I've tried playing with all the settings, normally leave sensitivity between 7-6. When you pass over metal it sounds fine, excluding the threshold sound. Should I just leave it just under where it makes a threshold sound, where I don't hear anything when not going over metal, or should I get this looked at? Is it faulty or is it user error? Are you "inside" when doing this ?

Electrical interference may play SOME part in this.

I have tested inside and outside.

I would start with an Oring inspection. OBN showed what bad rings look like and they cause big damage.

Actually yes... O-rings that have salt in them can do this...
Take off battery pack and carefully take off rubber grommet... do not pull hard or it can rip...
Then clean the entire connection setup thoroughly... AND terminals ...
clean as best as you can with nothing more than a clean rag...
IF you have some silicone grease... add small amount to oring/grommet edge/lip... BOTH sides...
Also add to rim area/// flat surface...NOT IN HOLES... not on the posts either
you can use a q-tip... I have found it works the best.

reassemble and try.

And the Volume and threshold are two separate audio's


like you noticed volume is the target volume

the threshold is the balance of the machine, most of the time when adjusted it does not start until the knob is 50% turned.

Also you can hunt with no threshold, just click the machine on

I would bet it is fine...just need to get away from all the interference
