I'm looking to buy some spalls. Hoping to find some different material. I've been buying from Missouri trading company but was hoping maybe someone would point toward another website to check out. Can't really knapp right now until I move but would like to be ready with some new stone when I can. Thanks. Ben

I have several different types of obsidian...

Yeah I have worked with obsidian alot and can find it at most websites. Was hoping for something different. I've been using obsidian Burlington dacite and novaculite. Plus glass too.

If you are interested, I could see if I could get you some different types of material from up here in Mt.

Ben
I have found a gorge full up in the mtns. I cracked the end of with a rock to test it. I think it may be a type of Tn hornstone. Here are two pics and the backside with the rind. Anyways if you want a bunch of it I can get it when I am back up there with my 4 wheeler. If not interested that it ok.
I might be more selective if I think you are wanting it. I was just checking material as I walked by from what I find below which is a black and tan. Did not see that am sure its there.

I have coastal plains chert, baybottom chert and agatized coral but none of it is spalled. What I need is a knapper to come over and bang out spalls LOL.
How big a spall, or how small? Show some pics of spalls you would use with their size and shape . Are you adverse to working a broken or discarded tool?? Are knappers willing to knap old spalls, brokes, etc.?? How about old cores?

JCinPC used to have spalls of coral for sale, probably still does.

Old digger and Tn. I just order a bunch but am allways looking to pick up more. Let me know what your charging and ill let you know if I can do it. Funds are tight but we can work something out. Thanks for looking out for me.

Tom. I don't mess with knapping old spalls or artifacts even if they are broken. I don't know. Feels wrong to me for some reason. I do pick up debitage and old flakes to work though.

I understand and thought so, BSIT... However where do all the broken pieces that we find go? in the driveway, around gardens, heck I've thrown away some.
A lot of really funky broken large pieces have excellent material left for smaller points. I ain't talking about rechipping, but taking out the useable material, leaving no trace of original work. Hey they were discarded, LOL

I'd still like to see what knappers want, what size preform or flake.

In my case its ball mason jars old tackle boxes and on display. I love looking at my broke artifacts. I keep everything. I even have jars of 1 inch pottery sherds. Spalls that I buy are 3 to 6 in or bigger. Flakes need to be 2 in or bigger an have enough thickness to work with but thinner then spalls. I like my spalls under an inch thick but that doesn't allways happen. Also with flake you want it without a now in it. I keep my percussion flakes that are straight an over two inches seperate from my debitage. Sorry I have no pictures right now. Ben

hahah if I go back I will grab around 100 lbs easy. It is free. Cover the shipping is cool with me.

Your awesome Tn. Thanks a lot. Send me a pm if ya get back there. Good luck hunting this weekend if ya get out. Ben

I just went outside and knocked some material off so you could see it. I think it looks better here. Of course I destroyed that last piece haha. I have real stuff from this.
