I hunted a yard today and found this beauty. The original owners had passed away and a lady had recently purchased the house.

That is a beautiful, fat silver ring! Never seen one of those. Great find, and congrats!

Thanks y’all. I only hunted probably 4% of the yard. She said that I could come back and hunt some more. Hopefully I’ll be able to get some more stuff out of the ground!

ACE I also found one just like yours 6 years ago in a yard here in town. Mine is marked BALFOUR STERLING. Balfour is one of the major manufacturers of class rings. As you can see below mine is in good shape like yours. I found a dozen indianhead pennies and a lot of other goodies in that yard. Good luck with your future hunts in this one. Keep swingin.

tnt-hunter do you know when these were made by chance?

I found one site that said it was from the 1970’s. I’m not sure how accurate this is. It looks older to me. I have found a bunch for sale on line, but no dates are given and none are for sale by the original owner who could confirm the age.

Sorry I can’t be more help. Keep swingin.

Thanks!

I did a little more checking and Ed-D posted one here in 2014. One of the responders had one like it when he was in school in the 1960’s and another person saw them in a catalogue in the 80’s. So it would appear that the exact ring has been made for a long time and there are a fair number of them for sale online.

Thanks for the information on that. I wish I could possibly find the original owners of the ring and give it back but the elderly couple that lived there passed away recently and some one else purchased the home. But maybe I’ll hang onto it and see. Thanks!

Very Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Nice Ring find. GL on any research that could help you on a connection to it. That'd be cool.

I love those chunky, old silver rings. I've never found one myself. Plenty of silver bands and gem stone rings but never a chunker like that. Way to go!
