We always enjoy picking up the lager surface find pottery sherd's.Its interesting to study the patterns. When we have enough we frame them in shadow boxes.

This is a now extinct mussel that was once a very important part of their diet. Some say the Indians ate them to extinction others say Tennessee Valley Authority killed the rest of them with their dams.

Very nice end scraper, i bet it fits good to the thumb, hahaha. Nice pottery and nice finds. The only place I have found pottery is in Utah, but the pieces weren't as whole as the ones you found... Cool.. Hope ya get out there for a hunt soon, like the finds..

Great hunt.

Pottery pieces very cool. One looked like a pine cone design. You can almost put yourself there with some of these items.
Mussel is like nothing I've ever seen/ found. Unique.
Very nice.
I'm going west this week, now, fore sure. I'm jealous.

The pottery is stamped, paddled or incised here. They used crushed mussel shells in it. Last year we went to the river and dug two 5 gallon buckets full of good clay and one bucket of shells. Then one rainy day we got out some morters and pestles and ground up the shell and everybody sat around the table and made ancient pottery. It was hilarious. Its all out in the shed and we are going to fire it in a bon fire. Dont worry it will never end up in any collections. It all looks dysfunctional. I will post it some day after its fired. Thanks Bw. Wait.... I thought you were west???
