Field what's its?

Hi all,
Hunted a soybean field this past weekend and found these two what's its. The larger one is slightly graduated and seems solid, very heavy. The smaller, silver item has wood inside it, does not appear to have been cut. Any ideas?

I save the larger iron items to give to the farmer if he wants them. He is always interested to see them. :)

HH and thanks for any help,
Michiganne

I have seen cylindrical tether weights before, but that appears to be longer than the ones I am familiar with.

I had to look up "tether weight" creskol. Wouldn't there be some point of attachment if it was one? This has nothing on either end. :dontknow:

May not have been on the ends. Take a close look and see if this is a possibility:

On the small silver colored item.....maybe a cane or umbrella tip?

You are the second person to suggest that. :icon_thumright: I have no idea, never seeing many canes in my lifetime. :dontknow:

OK creskol, I took a better look and you might be right. Here are some pics to show a possible attachment point on the side.

So would this be a homemade version, as it did not seem to match any of the Google images for a horse tether?

Also, would they hook this to the horse's bridle? I saw a few pics where they hooked them to a leg/foot. I can't imagine this being heavy enough to stop a horse if he really wanted to go somewhere. :icon_scratch:

Thanks again for enlightening us!

Probably a farm-shop weight, and yes, it would be hooked to strap from the bridle, kinda serves as a temporary hitching post. The lead horse was usually pretty well trained to respond to a slight tug, so it really didn't take much weight .. just enough tug to keep their head down, and they pretty much stayed put.

Also, if you found that other piece in the field, my guess would be that it is from an old tractor umbrella.

OK, we'll go with the tether weight and cane or umbrella piece. :icon_thumright: Yes, the smaller silver piece was from the field, former home site.

Thanks for the help gents! :hello2:
