Finally a Buffalo Nickel!

Another quick hunt to my favorite lunch site. Found another wheat and then a strange signal. It bounced from Nickel to dime. Some swings dime-dime others Nickel-dime. I had dug a half dozen shotgun shell ends so thought this would be another, but out pops this toasty Nickel. Knew immediately that I finally had a good chance for a Buffalo!!!!!

Are buffalo's that rare or just bad luck for me with these old nickels?

I've only been metal detecting for a year and I've only found one buffalo but the one I did find is a 1913 Type 1. They are hard to find. Good job digging those questionable signals, maybe it was on edge before you dug it up.

I got my first last week. It is a 1920 and looks like regular clad not toasted at all. Florida white sand is much easier on coins then in other parts
How do you clean regular clad coins? I asked on the cleaning and general discussion and no one has responded?

I just found my first a couple days ago. Mine hit penny/dime also but it was in the hole with a bunch of what I think was zinc type metal from a lid or can.

Took me about seven years to dig my first (and only ) buff nickel . Still looking for an Indian Head cent ...nice find !
