Finally, I found an 1831 large cent today in an old park. It was where an old rotted tree trunk sat. My first one and hope to find others- very excited! I didnt clean it and don't plan to do so. Hope to hit that park again tomorrow!

Clean it with heated peroxide, and I'll ID the variety for you. :icon_thumleft: :read2:

I was pretty excited! I knew when I plucked it out it was something neat! Wait till tomorrow- could be anything out there waiting for me!

A MUCH nice 1831 than in my collection. I think after cleaning it will prove to have Very Fine (VF-20) details, or better. Yeah, it's a dug coin, and will have problems associated with the soil exposure. But still, a much nicer coin than in many collections.

Congratulations, and hope you find lots more!

all right bev! congrats on your first largie. hope to be hitting those rhode island feilds soon. willy

Nice find it still has plenty of detail , dig up more  Jim

I've been test driving a friend's AT Pro and wasn't feeling like I was mastering it at all. I almost felt guilty about finding it because it wasn't skill, just almost dumb luck. It did ring an clear stong signal though instead of the somewhat choppy ones I had been trying to decypher all day. All in all I think I'll sell my extra two to put toward one of these...Hitting the park again this morning with a "pro" with the AT Pro to pick up more pointers!

Nicely Done ! There is nothing like the feel of a freshly dug Large Cent in your Hand
Congrats,
FBB

Congratulations on finding your 1831 LC Bev! :hello2:

Luck really has very little to do with it . . . you have a good machine, you were in the right location and you're digging the right tones!

That's all it takes, you're going to find silver pretty soon now!

Dave

very cool....cant wait to feel that on my first  congrats!!!

Congratulations Bev on your first Large Cent, I know you will have a special place for this one and without a doubt more will be in your future!
