I'm not sure but is it an early diplomatic or patriotic button? (or is it federal?) Just trying to learn this one?

I think it's a federal general service button.

Found a few of those where I got my minty 1852 gold dollar so your time period is correct

I found a silver plated one similar and was told by my "experts" it was War of 1812 officers
