Back to the same place I've been detecting at these past few days.......8-4-1 and today another 4. The day started off with a merc, then another and low and behold, my favorite thing to find........a Standing Liberty Quarter. Worn, but I love it tremendously! I had the camera, but not one of the signals were textbook or close to, so I didn't bring out the camera. It would've been nice to have caught that SLQ on video. I won't even say maybe next time. Those are far and few in between.

Ricardo, you're closing in on 100 fast!!

Congrats on your SLQ!!!

Not even the quarter had the textbook tone? I wonder what must have been next to it? :icon_scratch:

Hey Dan,
They all had the textbook nice and high tone, but the Smartscreen readings were really off........this is the really high pitch like silver sound but with a smartscreen position in or about the nickel area......sometimes it dives below nickel. These are the things that can be screw caps or other trash, but I take my chances. I get a good dose of the silver sound with the correct smartscreen cross-hair position, and that is when the camera comes out. Nonethless, I do dig more by sound now. I've learned this lesson many times, including today. I used to rely heavily on the smartscreen, not anymore.

Ahhh, you're coming closer to mastering that machine now!! That's good to hear you're relying more on the tone than what the screens say for those deepies!!

Good Job!!

When my buddy, Jon(goldenapples), joins me on a hunt, and he has his video camera that day to do some filming of my deeper signals, I'm always telling him to get out the camera on any deep/ good sounding high tones. I never look at the screens anymore for the deepies/haven't for a long time, unless I'm trying to ID a quarter from a silver dime or potential nickel hits. But with the deep, high-tones, I'm calling Jon over for some filming.

Dan...you are so busy finding silver...that poor guy Goldenapples/John has no time to hunt himself! He might have to have a camera built in like an inline probe on his detector... :walk:

I also have ditched digital and started using smartfind. I have been listening to the tones and its been working well except for gold... I did hit a small gold pendant this week...but if I was using digital I would not have bothered digging... Seems to me the tones with junk/gold are to close together... The pendant reading was falling off the bottom of the screen just below the nickel reading...gave it a shot and got lucky I guess...

Well done on the silver!!! Its good to see that your still out tearing it up. I too like the standing quarters. They just dont seem to show up very often. 8)

That's funny, Gregg!! ;D ;D Yeah, sometimes I don't bother calling Jon over because we are too far apart, but he really would like to get those silver digs on film just as much as I would. I'd call him over to listen to a real tricky, deep signal so that he can become better "dialed in" to those types of signals when he's on his own.

Looking for gold in the turf or in the water, you have to use the "dig all" mentality. There is no machine that can accurately identify gold from aluminum out there yet. At least with the older, deeper coinage you can cherry pick through all the trash/shallow clad to zero-in on them.

WTG my friend. Love those multiple silver days. You really picked up on that explorer and what it's telling you in no time. Love finding those SLQ's , almost as much as seated coins. Someday we'll hook up for a hunt.
Take care, Mike

Hey Ricardo, glad you got the SLQ out of that spot, nice reward for the hard work. WTG
