Well, the surf here in Puerto Rico has been up for the surfing season so I was out of luck for a month or so trying to dive my favorite swimming hole, Then last weekend the surf died down and for two days the currents were very mild so I donned my snorkel & SCUBA gear and with my Minelab Excaliber, I went a searching for some treasure.
Lucky for me the rough surf the last few months has washed the 3 feet of sand bottom down to about 9 inches. As I started detecting my Excal would go off, I would lay it down to scoop up some sand and it would go off again. I had a blast scooping for a total of 6 hrs in the two days of calm seas.
I was surprised to find black sand on the first scoop of most of my digs so the hunting was almost like taking candy from a baby. Plus, I found very little trash (bottle tops and pull tabs). It appears they went with the top two feet of sand and the swimming hole was left with the heavier coins, lead weights and rings and costume jewelry.
Here are my finds from those two days/ 6 hrs of the funnest treasure hunting I ever had. I used two tanks of air and the rest of the time I just used the snorkel.
Thanks for looking guys!!! This is a great hobby and the best group of TH'ers out there
Cheers!
