Been swinging my Ace 350 for two years now. Finally dug my first IHP (1909)!!! Damn Maryland soil does a number on copper. You can barely recognize the four KG2 1/2 cents I've found. Also found two bits of random metal and a small hand drill. Also found some glazed brick. I must have stumbled across an old home site. Area is littered with iron nails and random iron signals. These pieces of brick were spread out over a very large area.

You're right about the soil, that puppy is toast! You can barely read it.Hell,I'd keep plugging away at it by the looks of the brick.Good luck :icon_thumright:

Fantastic! Have you checked for an S mint mark? Unlikely but you never do know!!

I have a site I hunt and there’s a lot of bricks with that glaze too , there’s a foundation from the early 1700s but also some modern bricks mixed in so I’m not sure how old they are. Know any bricks experts ? If there is such a thing lol ...it may help date your site ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1580222606.670686.webp
Btw... I’m in Maryland too (eastern shore ) how bout you ?

Congrats. Looks like you found a good site.

Congrats I use hydrogen peroxide in a small bowl heat in microwave for 20 seconds drop the coin in for a few minutes if you want it clean or looks good like that also. Well done. Tommy

Looks like a nice place to hunt! :occasion14:

I’m in western Maryland and we have a lot of acid soil here as well. Most copper coins and brass buttons get pretty crusty and the zinc pennies are destroyed. Congratulations on the IHP. I hope there are more to follow. Keep swingin.

I'm in southern Maryland.

Congrats on your first Indian Head penny.

You’re on the spot[emoji1598]
