Finally found my first 1970-D Ken. ... and a question

I've been CRHing since the early seventies , took a long time off of it ,. and started again about 6
years ago when i got into metal detecting . Yesterday I scored my 1st 1970- D Kennedy half
spotted the white edge in a teller tray - was rather shocked to see the date because after seeing
nothing but 65's thru 69's forever , that 1970 kinda rocked me ! with the rather low mintage
(comparatively) ,can you get much more for these than melt - Redbook has it at $18. for MS 63

Ebay will tell you what they are going for. Don't expect to get what the book says.

Bent , thanks for your reply - yeah I know redbook is retail , I just wondered if this one tends to
fetch more than melt . I'll check e-bay - Argentium.

I've seen them sell on ebay in the $8-$10 range with silver being around the price it is now. However, you can also buy the entire 1970 mint set off ebay in the same price range. One of those quirky ebay things I guess.

incredibly I got two of them in my last box of halves. Already sold one for $11 in decent condition. The other is banged up pretty good and will probably sell for its silver value rather than a premium

Mint and Proof sets are worth less than the sum of there parts!

I can't explain why but most mint/proof sets cost less than sum of the coins they contain. This difference is seen in the Red Book and on ebay.
