Metal Detecting
Met up with some buddies at sunrise on Saturday. We pulled together a sort of metal detecting 4 mile mapped out adventure with 4 researched planned stops. We found coins and relics at the first 2 sites and then made our way to the third site. I had tried locating this particular spot of the 1862 map on a couple of scouting trips with no luck, but decided it to add it our day as a “let’s spend no more than 30 minutes” stop. At the 3rd site Jer noticed some pottery and old glass. We all made our way to his spot and bingo, we all found a bunch of oldies. Here was my take. The site ended up being older than we anticipated, late 1700’s - CW. (Tombacs, pewter spoons and buttons, silver washed buttons, floral pattern buttons)

Very, very nice. Quite a variety of keepers there!

Lots of nice buttons, relics and coins. I'm sure you'll be going back to those spots.

Well damn....that's a very impressive bunch of finds. Great collection of buttons.

Wow, I love that pin with all the flags on it! I bet you had a blast digging all those!!

Any idea why there were so many brass tool tags or sometimes called checks? is it a coal mining area?

Killer site, congrats on the multitude of keepers! :occasion14:

Nice finds. You killed it. Looks like a perfect spot.

The coal mining tags came from an abandoned farm next to my house. My property sits on an old coal mine from the 1890’s. Essen Mine. The tags were used to keep track of how much coal a miner dug. Common find around my area, but still fun to dig and share. Thx

Nice stuff, good work on finding the site!
