Ive spent the past month looking for a new old site along the river. I was beginning to get discouraged but persistence finally paid off. Some buckle fragments, tombacs and a cast pewter button would alone have made my day but the two complete knee buckle frames are awesome. Dont think Ill find much more there as it is a pretty small area and the water gets real deep quick but it feels good to get the skunk off

Very nice relic finds, Congrats! Hope there's more there...

That was a seriously nice haul- Congrats!

Man, there's some cool detail on the gilded one!

Super nice knee buckles and buttons. Sounds like you put the time in on this group. It payed off nicely for you. Congrats!!

Fancy stuff, congrats!

Those are some sweet Colonial finds there.I always thought they were knee buckles but a Colonial wardrobe expert who photographed my collection informed me that
knee buckles were never ornate and what you have there are actually hat buckles..

That is awesome congrats! Is it a salt water river or fresh water? If the water depth changes quickly is there any way to get down there, or could you take the hunt up to land where the stuff came from? Just curious. Those Hoover Boys vids of the river hunts are amazing! I have to say your profile picture is pretty funny as it pertains to metal detecting! The way river beds can change I wouldn't be surprised if you went back at a different time of year and the finds were replenished by shifting sand.

Your patience and persistence yielded some nice finds! Congratulations. I’ll bet there are more goodies in the area! HH

Buckle's should clean up nice once you get the "cookie" off them. Nice :icon_thumright:

There are tons of photos of ornate style buckles online and in my buckle book described as knee buckles but either way thanks for the info

It goes from a few feet deep to instantly around 15 feet. The shoreline here is overgrown with vegetation and only a few feet of bottom is exposed at lowtide. Its also silted in pretty bad so I was surprised to find anything but there was enough scattered rocks and stones to make it look interesting. Also it being the mouth of a large creek made it an ideal location to search

That would make my hunt.

Those are some exceptional finds! Congratulations!

Congrats on the nice relics! :occasion14:

That's a good fix wow 2 of em I would tear that place up. Well done

Yes it is a great joy to ponder where these relics came from and who was wearing them and why they were lost there..
Oh man I could go on forever:laughing7:
I assume if it's larger than a Franklin half dollar it's probably a hat buckle.Just think you don't want a heavy buckle hanging on the side of your leg.
Rarely ever really getting a full view..I think a hat buckle is a more rare find.A nice example of a hat buckle is on Jefferson in this video.I would
head back to that area there had to been a reason for being at that river..Any potential sled hills nearby I do well on them..

Cleaned them up a bit more and man does the one have some intricate designs on it. I see faces on the corners as wellas flowers and more. The other ones much heavier with a nice geometric pattern and not to shabby either
