I hit a site where a log cabin once stood over the weekend hoping to get into some early American stuff or even colonial. The place shows up on the 1867 county atlas, but was apparently occupied into the 1960s based on stuff I found. I also know it's been hit by others. I did scratch out some early-mid 19th century stuff. At least I got some silver, albeit modern....

Here are the 19th century finds. You really have to work for the older stuff at this site.
Would love to know what the smaller copper was, but this ground really ate it up.

Here are the better finds, minus spoons, toy guns, etc. The ring has a red stone and is marked 10K RGP. A kid's junker.

Some dirt shots of some of the coins...

Finally, a couple finds from some fill dirt in the neighborhood. A pre-prohibition 5 cent beer token from the Chartiers Brewing Company in Carnegie, PA. Found right across the creek from where the brewery stood, but I don't know where the dirt came from. Been wanting to find one of these after seeing several the Thad (pa dirt_nc sand) found from different Pittsburgh breweries. The other piece is a charge coin from Jonasson's Department Store, Pittsburgh, PA.

Great finds Steve! Is the wiped copper too big to be a half cent? Maybe a token, odd size though. Congrats!!

Yep too big for a half cent. Kinda reminds me of a Virginia halfpenny based on the diameter and how thick it is. Its definitely a copper. Way too thick for a token and rang up 95 on the Deus, same as a matron head large cent.

Very nice collection of finds Steve. Love the pics of the copper coming out of the ground. Congrats.

Nice variety Steve that new car should be good on gas to get you to some sites!

I bought a big long plastic container to stowe all shovels, boots, and other gear, plus another smaller one for trash I dig. The cargo area of my Subaru forester was a filthy mess. Gonna try to keep this one clean :laughing7:

Thad, my roached out copper measures 26.4 mm and weighs 6.53 grams. By comparison, a VA Halfpenny is 25.1 mm and 7.7 grams, and a Draped Bust half cent is 23.5 mm and 5.44 grams. I guess it will remain a mystery.
