Finally made a hunt

I finally took off work, had a not really hot day and made a hunt. Found a new field and it has produced nicely. Found a bunch of marbles, couple of round balls, 1905 O Barber dime, an adverising token "Esto Broussard 1515 florida St" ,"inside star "pat. 15-23 Geo. Heene Eveland.D" and the american flag in the star on the back. what could it be? The best is a notary seal for Assumption Parish, F. Gillet. The seal having the Eagle instead of the Pelican makes me think it could be pre-civil war. Anybody have any ideas I am all ears.

I don't know what it is but I'm glad to see you made a hunt. Ricky and I haven't made any attempt for the whole summer....bummer. Looking forward to cooler weather to start again. When is the sugar fields cut? We don't have that up here so I don't know. Lets get together for a hunt again somewhere new that we haven't been....road trip!!! I finally retired and bought a big 4 wheeler the other day, so I'm ready for anything! Good luck on discovering what you found, it looks really good!!!

on file at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, La. These notices
which appeared in the paper give locations and directions to land not
always specified in the legal records at the courthouse, making it
easier to determine the area where the parties lived. The paper was
written in French but all legal notices were printed both in French
and in English.)

Succession sale of the property of deceased URSIN FALTERMAN - Order
dated 2 Sept. 1850 - CYPRIEN L. BLANCHARD, auctioneer...Plantation of 3 arpents
front of the right bank of the Attakapas Canal going toward Lake Verret in the NE
1/4 Sec. 2 T14S R13E, excepting 2 arpents front which belongs to HUBERT BARBIER
and the portion to which LASTI FALTERMAN has a right.

Got some good info on the seal. The eagle was chosen by Gov Claiborne in 1805 and used until 1864 when the pelican was chosen. Felix Gillet was a commisioner of elections in 1850. I just love finding this stuff and then putting the history together. We have lots of smart people out there. Thanks for all the help River Rat. Putting the seal in what is it paid off. Brent

Tying history with a find is such a cool part of the hobby and Brent, you are right, we are llucky to have some smart people to research his stuff and come up with what they do.
