Finally my job is done. Had a big, big 3 day yard sale

Actually it was a warehouse. Started there with a meeting with the owners on Oct 30. My buddy and I decided to take on the selling of everything in the warehouse. The husband and wife owners decided to close down their business. (what is kind of funny there is a banner ad at the top of this page advertising their business) The husband would clear out a house of everything for the relitives when someone dies. He would haul most to the dump or goodwill, but he would keep anything he thought was of value. He was a hoarder. Inside this building it looked like one of those hoarder shows on TV. Ken and I spent 20-30 hours just getting it ready so people could walk through and see thing to buy. We did it two Saturdays in a row and yesterday (Friday) There was not a lot of high dollar items, but there were some gems. When all was over we got to pick what we wanted as a bonus. Here are just some of what I brought home. Didn't even spot the choppers till late yesterday. Used my gloves to put them in my box. Tested today, high karat gold. ($120 or so) Those wires in the last photo are from gold filled glasses. (134 grams of 1/10 12K = $230 or so) There were hundreds of of 1980ish transisters and little plugin chips. I only took the "mens" calendar because of the age. (they sell for $40 to $80 on feebay, those young ladies are probably pushing 80 right now) I left the hundred or so other magazines.

There might be gold in the electronics parts but they might be worth more to a collector. I have been buying a saving GF for 6 years now and have a good amount saved up. Some day I will recycle it. All the glasses frames had 1/10 12KT GF stamped very tiny on the inside nose bridge.

I'd bet the farm that after 3 days of selling, you are more than worn to a nub.... Were there any times where "selling" got your adrenaline as high or higher than it gets when you're out "buying"?

I was wondering what you do with all the lens that come out of those old wire frames?

Great idea, and an inexpensive one too. Do you melt down the metals and separate out the gold yourself?

While not impossible, home smelting is not something that is is easily accomplished. Best leave it to the professionals.

No, everybody wanted a better price, most did not know how to bargain.

Trash. most were broken already.

No, I am strictly the middleman when it comes to gold recycling. I do not feel like boiling these things in acid.
I am going to try to sell to collectors first. I see on ebay right now simular looking items going for $50 to $120 EACH!
but others at $3.50 to $6.00 each.

No, even though I am Scottish I did not have the urge. Where I live someone might call the cops thinking I was torturing someones cat.

Hi Dan, I am sorry I don't know what the Shriner stuff is really worth. I think it is mostly whatever you can get for it like I said in the PM. I am surprised you didn't get more for your pipes. I am in a pipe and drum band and have never seen a set of used pipes sell from one retiring or deceased member to the next for less than $400 bucks. Some brands, with sterling pieces on them can still demand 4 figures even when used. I am the bass drummer, so I am no expert on pipes either. I just have heard what a new member or one looking to upgrade has paid a widow or an 80 year old who can't march any longer. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Well the winner has not paid yet. Do you think someone in your group might be interested? They are not a name brand, made in Pakistan. To me, every thing looks good quality.

Do Bass drummers wear kilts too? must get pretty cold this time of year.

Yes, Dan......the bass drummer wears a kilt also. All the events from now til St. Patty's Day are inside. LOL I will let you know if we have a new member looking for pipes. It is amazing how much Scottish wool is now produced in Pakistan. The cheaper, but still expensive kilt brands are from there also.
