Well I finally had a chance to get out after about 2 months....Been battling work, a sore back and a broken foot.....
but I couldn't handle it any more...Seeing everyones posts and all the great finds you are all having. I just had to get out before it gets too cold.
I visited the grove that always seems to produce something good. well today was no exception. Today I found my very first Buffalo nickel (1938 or 36 not sure it's still soaking), Today was also the first 3 silver day (2 64 dimes and a silver ring) I've had.
I went out for about three hours until my foot started to swell and hurt, but it was one of the best days I've had to date. along with the silver and the buffalo, I managed to get a boyscout pocket knife, a second ring that may also be silver but I have my doubts, a bicentennial quarter, and a 1954 nickel, and three Wheaties (44,40,53), $2.46 in clad and a golf ball !
The two rings are pictured below. the one with ETR or CTR ?? is silver the other ring is heavy but looks like it could be old silver or or something else. there no markings on the second ring. any help on what the three letters on the first ring are or if you have any ideas on the second ring

Thanks for looking

Congrats on the buffalo and the silver. The other ring looks great. let us know if you find out any more about it.

looks like ctr.. they were made for the chisolm trail reunion !!!

kiddin,, nice finds there....... ;D ;D ;D

Close Green1........But no !!! ;D

This is what I found on the first ring. It also has a hallmark on the back that says SMITH (hallmark) and "Sterling" under it

"CTR," for "choose the right," commonly worn by members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

Made by "Joseph Smith"

The second ring has no markings inside, but under a loupe there are no signs of flaking or chipping so it doesn't look like it plated with anything???????

I found that same pocketknife a couple of months ago-it's actually a girlscout knife -mine is rusted pretty badly too- do you have any ideas on how to clean it up? I think it's from the mid 70's - early 80's.

ART...I haven't even tried cleaning it(other than soaking it in water). I have three other little knives that I've found and they all look about the same. I have no Idea how to even go about cleaning them with out damaging the handles.....

On another note I took the second ring to a jeweler to see if they could tell me what kind of metal it was made out of or if it was old at all. the two suggestions I received were either nickel or pewter and no one had any idea on the date because there are no markings. If it is nickel apparently it should turn your finger colors because of it (something about a reaction to your skin and sweat)......Well I either have a pewter ring or my skin isn't affected by the nickel seeing as I have it on none stop since I've found it and no discoloration yet (5 days).......I figured the only way to test it was to try it, but no reaction........Soooo I guess I'm going with pewter. I don't know of any other way to test it.

Thanks for the comments
