Today went back to my beach spot and decided to try and find some old cannon balls.Which I knew had been found in that spot in the past.My first deep iron target turned out to be a huge old horse shoe it was very heavily encrusted and was very weighty. It was about 3ft down in the sand and it took a lot of hard work to recover. Then I got another deep signal nearby and I had found my cannon ball.Well I thought the horse shoe was hard to recover that was easy compared to this as it was really imbedded deeply in the bottom.Probably due to the fact it would have been fired from a fort about half a mile away last century. Well I persevered and eventually got it out. Then a little while later got a faint signal about 6 ft away from the cannon ball and found a gold ring. The weather turned fowl so I called it a day, but my day wasnt over I still had to get my heavy treasure finds back to the car and that was quite an exercise. Gypsy The ring has some sort of hallmark but it is well worn cant tell what carat probably 9ct I can only read last number 5. Normally 9ct read as 375 so I reckon the 5 is part of that number. Seeya Neilo

Nice finds!! How do you conserve a cannonball thats been in saltwater that long, sounds difficult :-\ Iv found iron artifacts that have been in the sea for around 50 years and they were un-salvagable, oceans do a number on things :(

could be .415(.417) 10 kt .583 14 kt ?

Very Interesting finds Neilo. I also would like to know how you will go about preserving the C/ball & H/shoe.
BTW I eventually settled for the PI pro. Got to learn how to surf now as I was a dry sand guy for 2 years. The surf is totally different.
