Ok I'm still working on re-sizing my pics for the attic finds my grandpa has, and my dads coin collection but besides that I have a new issue that I'm dealing with. My mom is an art teacher for an elementary school. The school is 98 years old and I've detected some of it before with no luck. She told me tonight that a teacher there was telling her that she knew of time capsules buried on the school property YEARS ago and was going to show her where she thinks they are at. I have an ACE250 and want to know what is the best way to find these time capsules and what kind of signal I should be expecting to get? I WILL update with pics tomorrow if I find them, if not I'll let you all know how the hunt went. Does anyone have any experience finding time capsules, I guess you could also consider it to be a cache. Anyways I can't wait and hope to find them!

Will try and take a stab at your question. IMO it depends on several factors. What is the capsule made of? If it's a concrete box, then it depends on 1) the content and 2) the depth of the capsule as to whether it may be possible to detect it.

Hi,,, it will be difficult to give advice on this time capsule ,, just go for any signal !
I mean what material will it be made of ? how deep will it be ? below 2' you might not pick up any signal ..
also,,how much have you used your detector,, ?? not enough I presume to know anything about what signals you get from different objects ?

Time Capsules around here that I am aware of have a
Cement or Brass Cap with the date buried. Lying on the ground.

Others are in Dated Cornerstones.

Around Flag poles would be the most likely spot to find those buried
in the ground. as a ceremony may have preceded it.

Locating one with a 250 may be a task depending on depth, but if you search in all metal, and dig all signals, you'll at least have a chance.
Remember if it's Shallow, the Signal may be loud, If it's deep, it may be a broken signal or small coin size sound.
it all depends on what it is made of, and the detector used.

Good Luck !
and keep us posted.

That sounds like a great reasure hunt! My advice is to get as good a general idea from that teacher on where they are burried. I would then lay out a grid and start detecting. I would then wait until after a big rain so the ground is well soaked and start systenatically detecting the grids.

If you find anything, it would be great to have names attached so that you could get ahold of them so that they could enjoy going through their items as well. Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!
