The grounds around here are full of old trash, just permission is the thing. I have friends who has found thousands of corktop bottles. Here's a pic of another that had some blue powder in it when it was found with the cork still in tact. It says Mrs. Stewart"s Bluing near the neck of the bottle. I added a little water to the powder.

Nice looking bottle, I am just starting to find different ones. Some came from a german POW camp. I have tried to google some but not much luck. I hope to post some pics soon, HH Art...

my dad said that back in the late 40's and early 50's, Mrs. stewart's bluing was used for re-dying his faded blue jeans. kind of like rit dye. go figure. he swore by the crisp fresh look on his levi's though.

Interesting, JRP! Maybe it did the trick at full strength. However, my mom used to put just a little bluing in the laundry rinse water. Supposedly, it kept whites from looking dingy. (No, I'm not thinking of bleach.) They still make the stuff, and here's what Mrs. Stewart's website says about it:

I still use bluing...makes the whites look bright white....One cap per load! :)
