The ground here in OK has been like a brick for the last month so haven't been able to do much digging. We got rain Saturday, so even though I was busy Sunday I jumped outside and hunted for a few. Luckily a cool front is moving in as I type this and some more rain, so should be able to get out more soon. Didn't find anything great, 2 copper pennies (77 and 80), a silver colored button, a chunk of quartz crystal out of the red clay :icon_scratch:, an old pull tab (I don't even mind digging this style), some sort of heavy brass thing (weight maybe) and lastly what I thought at first was just a chunk of copper tubing. After rinsing the dirt off though, I saw that it has some sort of insert that is dogeared in opposite directions at both ends of the tube. One side has the letter "A" stamped in it, and there is a slot on the inside. I'm guessing maybe part of a musical instrument like an organ where air would be pushed in one side, through the slot and out the other side creating a tone. But I really don't know. Too bad it's crushed. Anyone got any ideas?

Also, anyone got a good method for cleaning the quartz?

Thanks for looking!

at least you got out for a while. It's been raining here all day so I am hoping to get out this week end

as for cleaning the quartz....why not just soap and water and a good brush?....if stains remains , why not Formula 409?....I'm not an expert, but I've never know a quartz to be damaged by cleaning agents....However, I'm no expert...beautiful quartz, by the way...and an interesting find in the copper tubing!

it was super dry here in Ark as well but we finally got a long soaking rain, can't wait to go in the morning, hopefully you will get some too

I found something a lot like your copper tube a few weeks ago and think it was a lipstick tube. Maybe the A is for Avon? Cool unusual find!

The ground in San Diego has been like concrete with all the drought.
