Finds from last two days

I was at a couple different sites the last two days. I found the medallion at a cabin that was falling down. The top center has a star, UL says Mahanoy City, UR Convention, LL Aug 18 or 19, LR 1912 the center has a clock with a Buck (Deer) under the clock. The ring was found on a farm. The lady that owns the farm told me she lost a ring and told me the general area that I could locate it in. When I found this ring I thought it was hers, to my surprise it wasn't.

The horse shoe is for a hind foot, and the hook thing on the right hand heel is a corrective feature that can only be used on the hind foot, because it sticks out from the heel, and if nailed on a front foot the horse could step on it. The horse was probably cow hocked and they were trying to straighten up it's legs. Kind of like a rudder on a boat, as the horse walks, the pressure in the dirt causes the foot to straighten out. Cow hocked means the rear feet are splayed out, and the hocks are close together, which also could cause the horse to interfere with the it's other leg, whacking them together when it walks, or even more importantly, pulling a buggy and having to trot a lot, that would aggravate the condition and would require correcting to keep the animal sound, or perhaps they might have wanted a saddle horse to slide to a prettier stop. What ever, it's an interesting shoe.

Those are some interesting finds. Is that a finial in pictures 3 and 4? Pretty neat that you found a different ring than you were looking for. Now you have to get back out there and find the other one.

Thank you for the great info on the shoe. I'm glad there are people on this site that are willing to take time out to tell us details about our finds. I thought the shoe was neat and I would find a spot for it around my house but never dreamed there was so much info one could get from an old rusty shoe.

I'm not sure what it is. The bottom has a same hole in the center that is threaded. Its fairly heavy for its size. I nicked the bottom of it when digging it out and it looks like copper or brass.
