I went on a farm that my uncle manages today and decided to hit a spot that holds some colonial period items. First good target of the day was a good sized crotal bell, which is a first for me. It's a beautiful piece. Next good target was a colonial shoe buckle, then a very early colonial button, with a concave front. Not sure if that is an 8 on the front or if that's just an impression from the shank. Managed to find a 1916 wheat penny, I'll take it but totally not the age of coins I was looking for. Dug a few more colonial style tombac buttons and a nice thimble.

Unfortunately the field I was detecting has extremely tall grass so it's hard to get to much. Might take the zero turn mower back to that spot and mow it down to the ground.

Was a fun day and very warm! Thanks for looking!

Great finds. Congrats on your first whole bell! Does it still jingle?

Haven't cleaned it out yet.

Love those bells man. Found my first this past fall and it still works.

Nice finds. I found at least 5 crotal bells last year. Don't know what to do with them, but I always like it when I pull one out of the ground. :icon_thumleft:

Display them, man!

That's a huge bell Matt! Love that buckle too. Keep hittin' that colonial honey hole.

Those larger bells are much harder to find whole. I have 10 or so of smaller sizes, but nothing that big. I love the patina on the cent!!

Thanks guys. That bell was a pleasant surprise for sure. And that's actually my first shoe buckle frame as well.

Every one of those finds are so cool, that button is very interesting, I would love to know more about it.

Great looking first Crotal bell congrats! Nice finds!

Here guys, made a video...find out if my bell still got some jingle left in it. lol

Nice finds! I found a similar No 8 crotal bell a couple months ago, the No 8 is the size bell. I've seen strings that went up to a size 12 (about the size of a baseball) but there is no standard sizing method as I've seen some that have the same number but are different sizes. I guess each manufacturer had their own sizing method.

Great looking bell! Hope you can find some good coins and more buttons from that site after you mow it. :icon_thumleft:

Never dug one of those bells Matt. Nice goodies, Q.

It was a foot down and blew my ears off! Gotta love the F75 and picking up those deep targets!
