Re: SPECTRUM XLT AND THE BIGFOOT COIL

HEY DARYL! I WAS WANTING TO KNOW THE DEPTH OF THE BIGFOOT COIL COMPARED TO THE STOCK XLT's 9.5 COIL ASSUMING BOTH WERE RUN ON THE EXACT SAME PROGRAM. WHICH DOES A BETTER JOB. MY SOIL IS LIGHT TO A MED. MINERIALSATION.

Re: SPECTRUM XLT AND THE BIGFOOT COIL

I really haven't seen any data on that. I use the DFX and don't have a stock coil so I have no real data. I was just joking a little about the stock coil. I think compared to the other coils available, it doesn't compare too well. I am sure an XLT user or 2 will chime in. I just scraped the coil that came with the machine. Never even hooked it up.

Re: SPECTRUM XLT AND THE BIGFOOT COIL

Hi Scott!

I don't have an XLT but I did buy a Bigfoot coil for the first detector I bought about 2 yrs. ago ... Prism V. I don't know if this will help but the Prism comes with the 950 coil so I assume it is the same as on the XLT.

Depth: - up to about 4" (about 1/2 the 950 coil)
Pinpointing: - very easy, dead on (I usually use the
front end of the coil)
Area Covered: - covers large areas quickly
Coil Weight: - very light
Target ID: - seems to change with the Bigfoot

I use this coil all the time for parks, beaches, etc... Hope this helps. :D

Re: SPECTRUM XLT AND THE BIGFOOT COIL

My DFX went and the XLT stayed. Great machine.
You can't compare the Prism/Classics etc as far as the Bigfoot is concerned as you need the XLT's range of adjustments, especially recovery speed, to get the best from the coil.
You should be able to get about the depth of the six inch Whites coil, but thats quite a deep coil in junky ground.
The stock 9.5 coil does suffer from target masking and in general the 8" is a better choice for general hunting.
The Bigfoot suffers less powerline interference and has a degree of inbuilt ground rejection. Just make certain you get the correct version for your detector, there's a few, and ground balance at 45 degrees to the ground. I shorten the shaft and don't lock the shaft buttons in the shaft. Lock the shaft with just the camlock and when you catch the ground (as you will when starting out) it allows the coil to revolve rather than cracking the coil lugs. Experiment with recovery speed. Remember its only really a 2.5" coil for all of the near 18" length.
Don't forget the XLT has a control specifically for the Bigfoot (Absolute Value) to allow the live area of the coil to be increased or reduced.

Re: SPECTRUM XLT AND THE BIGFOOT COIL

i had about 4" on my Qxt pro, great for covering lot of ground, much of the stuff here doesn't get to deep if in grassy areas anyhow.

Re: SPECTRUM XLT AND THE BIGFOOT COIL

THANKS THOMPY! I'LL GIVE IT A TRY AND PLAY WITH THE RECOVERY SPEED. I PLAN ON GOING OUT FRI. I'LL LET YOU KNOW HOW IT GOES :)

Re: SPECTRUM XLT AND THE BIGFOOT COIL

I have a friend with the XLT and Bigfoot coil! He uses Terry's preamp 15 program and his finds are UNBELIEVABLE!! 1200 quarters, 1100 dimes and over 1000 cents as well. He doesn't dig nickels often but has over 200+ there as well. He paid for his Bigfoot in six weeks. If you want more info I'll see if he'd send his # and he can tell you about that deadly combonation!!
