Firs and last time I ever try casino halves

Yesterday, I only had time to stop off a few of my branch banks to dump coins before I had to meet an old friend. After I drove him to the airport, I decided that driving 30 miles to the closest casino to buy halves would be a great idea since all banks were now closed. I was so wrong. When I got there, I went to the cashier and asked if I could buy fifty dollars in halves. He said that the tables carried halves and he could only sell me one roll. I went to every cashier asking for halves. I ended up in the restroom quickly opening the rolls and finding nothing. I promised myself I would not gamble but got drawn to the roulette table. To make a long story short, I walked out of the casino 111 dollars less than when I walked in. I am so ashamed and never thought that I would get pulled in. needless to say, that will be the last time I stop at a casino to pick up halves EVER again!!! I squandering of 111 dollars was my fault but, does that count against my net total profit for CRH this year?

I've gone thru $1000 before and only found one 40% so casino finds can be as sporadic as banks.

I always put on blinders when I hunt halves in casinos. I imagine myself as the only person who has figured out a system to consistantly leave there with a profit. If you're going to play, accept that the money you're investing is expendable otherwise you'll experience ten different kinds of frustration, not counting getting skunked, which is bad enough!

I always put on blinders when I hunt halves in casinos. I imagine myself as the only person who has figured out a system to consistently leave there with a profit. If you're going to play, accept that the money you're investing is expendable otherwise you'll experience ten different kinds of frustration, not counting getting skunked, which is bad enough!

Thanks Immy, I totally felt all those frustrations. to add to the list is the fact that I have 460 cash, about 800 loose halves with no paper rolls, and a box coming tomarrow. It takes allot of willpower to get skunked in a casino, and still walk out without touching a machine.

There was one casino near me that had one row of machines that used halves. I would drop in a $100 spot,hit the cash out button, fill my bucket, then sit in a corner and go through them. I could find maybe 5-10 silver coins in 5 or 6 buckets full. Of course in the mean time my wife is dropping $100 on the nickel machines. Anyway, slot machines are fun! For a while I came out ahead for maybe 8 times in a row last year. Plus i hit one $2000 jackpot and my wife hit a $1500 jackpot. After losing a few hundred a couple times in a row, Ive stopped going as often. My wife likes to play so we go occationaly, but I am careful about what I spend.
It is similar to crh, in that its all a matter of chance. The more you play the better chance you have to win. Although in the long run crh is a win-win and slot machines are a lose-lose.

I only have done nickels or quarters in casinos as I have yet to find a local casino that still has a half dollar machine that pays in coins. The local casino that had nickels and quarters was almost entirely coinless the last time I was there (a few months ago) and may be completely coinless by now. The only machines I would play were the nickel video poker machines. Put in a $20, play a few hands (sometimes), and then cash out. Once the coins were out I would search at least one handful for each nickel played and play one nickel at a time. Usually I would end up +/- $2 for 4-5 hours of searching. For quarters, if I played at all it was almost always at most one quarter before cashing out.

I usually went late at night (arrive around midnight, leave at 4-5 AM) when there were not as many people so I could move around and not feel like I was in someone's way who actually wanted to play the machines. I tried to bring halves to cash in there one time as they still use them on some table games, but they had to count all $60 by hand so that as the last time I tried that. I also always stopped on the way out to buy rolled nickels to search later. I usually tried to get $100 if I had enough cash. Occasionally I would get a few rolls of quarters as well.

Though I didn't search the quarters often while I was there, they generally seemed much better than quarters from the bank. On the order of one silver quarter for every $500 searched.

You might want to change the casino from a hunting ground and into a dumping ground. I would love to have a casino near me so that I could dump away from the hunting grounds.

I have seen people go into Indian Casinos with bags of coins. When in Reno/Tahoe I hit all the banks and then dump into the casinos. I sometimes will even take a box or two with me to move the coins out of my area.

And so what if he does? All you need to say is you'd like to cash these in so you can gamble. Is the casino not going to take your money? I doubt it. The one exception is if they don't have a coin counter for the type of coin you are bringing in and the value is small. For example, I don't know if they would take $50 in pennies unless they had penny machines that paid in coin. Would they take $500 in halves without a counter? Probably as long as you only did it occasionally.

At the one local Indian casino that still had coin operated machines the last time I was there, I have brought in up to $200 in nickels in a popcorn tin. The cashier asked if I brought them from home since they were ice cold. They had been in the car for a few hours in the middle of winter in Minnesota. The guard didn't say a word. I tried to bring back half dollars one time as they still use them in table games, but they didn't have a coin counter for those so I only turned in $60 worth. I used to frequently bring in up to $100 in nickels if I had them. Was about the limit to what I could fit it in my pockets. I would just transfer them to a casino cup once inside (though it does kinda weigh down your pockets, so if you try it wear a good belt...) Oh, and walk slow.

Another example.
When my parents come to visit (3.5 hour drive away) they drive by a couple of other Indian casinos that still do use coins. Last year, my dad would occasionally stop by and pick up some nickels for me ($100 - $200 worth). He would carry them in and out in some old wool socks (one in each hand). Used the socks like the canvas bags from banks. Sometimes he would put the casino cup in each sock to make it more supportive, but usually not. As far as I know the guards never hassled him about it, but I am sure they kinda chuckled to themselves as I am sure it looked ridiculous.
