We are leaving for Nags Head Saturday. Normally I do not get excited about going to the beach.
Would rather be spending the week on a mountain lake somewhere.
But this year I decided to take my ATP. This will be my first time digging in the sand.
I was hoping to get a little help setting up my ATP.
Would the standard GB work? Will the sand and water give a lot of false signals?
what would be your choice for a digger??
any help would be great. Thanks, Cletus

Sand Scoop!

Good Luck!:occasion14:

yea I kinda figured a scoop would be the best tool for the job.

The ATP is not going to work well in wet saltwater sand as it will false a lot. But it should do well on dry sand, but a Tesoro Comparde would too.

The $99 RTG Pro Aluminum Mini scoop (#733) is all you need. It is lightweight and easy to tote around. The ATP will gb down to salt and run semi ok. No you won't hit 15" deep targets but for recent fresh drops it will work.

I like the Beachmaster as it'll hold up better.Buy Sand Scoops, Beach Scoops, Moose Scoops, Water Scoops, Sand Sifter

had a great trip and got the chance to do a little digging in the sand.
found a little over $2.00 in clad, a truck load of bottle caps and pull tabs.
the ATP did great. GB around 17 and did not give any false signals.
I dug every hit from 50 up.
A few of the penny's was worn to thin rigid copper.

Made for around $15 and you can put your full weight on it pushing it in the sand. Not to heavy to carry I have been out with it for a couple hours with no problem. If you use nylon bolts you will not set off you detector.....

Glad you had a nice trip Cletus. Great to see you post. I bet that gold ring was just off to your left. LOL. I've never hunted a beach, sounds like fun.

Not as much fun as you would think lol.
really did not have the right digging tools.
dang sand kept filling my holes up, no shade to be found and a ton of twist off and pull tabs.
but still better than not digging at all.

our first evening there I watched another hunter digging right in front of our house.
the next morning I found several targets in the same area that he was hunting.
just goes to show that a place is never really hunted out.

I too have the beach master scoop and love it. No worries about it breaking.

The ATP is ok until you hit wet salty sand.. Dry sand is fine. I still like the ATP but love my E-Trac.. no comparison in the two

Timelord that scoop you made may work for you in loose sand but it would last about 3 scoops on the coast where I am at.

In the wet sand you need to get your foot behind the scoop to dig in and that's why you need a heavy duty scoop that is welded here. I seen a lot of $40 riveted scoops break around here
