Had only been doing loose rolls of different coins. Finally put together enough for a dime box. Was really hoping for at least one good coin, but no first timers luck for me this time. But I think I found myself a good pickup source so that should help. Probably try to do a box a week if I can. Gotta get on a schedule. Maybe pickup on the weekends, go thru the coins all week and dump on Fridays or something.

Yeah first box was either going to be good or bad. One coin would have made my day, hopefully I didn't skip anything. Even took the time to take a silver dime I had and slide it in with the others just to get an idea of what it will look like.

Be careful edge checking - I almost lost a Barber dime that had a very dark edge and I found it just prior to dumping. You may want to do a visual face check to make sure you don't have a Merc or Barber hiding.

You need to edge check dimes. Just be leery of anything out of the ordinary. No copper on the rim, all black rim etc. It will slow you a small bit with a couple of false positives, but you won't miss anything. Also be aware that the real old dimes can be very thin and smaller and are good at hiding right in front of you if you're not looking at the roll dead straight on in good lighting.

Develop a system to sound check for them, 100% accurate. Yeah I said it.

I have caught 2 dimes that way. Then you feel like an idiot that you missed one with your own eyes.

Sorry you skunked on your first box. I have led you astray.

I actually was checking them all individually. Was looking for the 1983 no mint mark, then I decided forget it because it was taking too long. I'm not about to go get all complex with errors unless I come across it by chance.
So I edge checked them all and then ran them all thru my hands to look at at least one side.

Doh! The no-mint-mark one is 1982. ::)

Is it really? Or ar eyou just messing around? Maybe not sure. Then I guess I wasted my time when I searched loose rolls for the 83. Oh well, that just makes it more complex and if I wanted to sell I'm sure any collector who wanted it would want it uncirculated or at least in really good condition. I'll stick to silver and other notables.
