Detector(s) used
Garrett ACE 250
Hello, All;

After reading magnificent posts here for God knows how long, and wondering whether I could even operate a metal detector much less find anything, I went out with the ACE 250 my wife and kids got me for my birthday.

Now understand that I'm a coin collector who has always WANTED to try this detector thing out, but never the gumption to follow through.

So I put it together and go out in the back yard and run it over a few coins that my kids threw out there and buried. Just put it in coin mode and got to it.

Found 'em all: hmmmmmm.

Went down to the neighborhood swimming pool park here in Kingwood and ran it through the gravel in the playground area and found 3 dimes, many cents, a few nickels with no problem whatsoever. Dug no trash.

Went down to the playground area of the oldest elementary in Kingwood, dating to only the late 70's. In 45 minutes had 3 quarters, 3 dimes, 5 nickels and lotsa cents, with one Canadian cent. This was outta the box by a novice in every sense of the word.

All I have to say is:

I'M HOOKED!
I'M HOOKED!
IT'S GOT ME!!

Day two and beyond! Silver, here I come!

(yes I know I'll dig my share of trash and just dirt, but my gosh I'm hooked!)

Welcome to our world Barry.

I believe Garrett owes us some sort of cut for all the deserved publicity we give ACE250.

;)

Welcome to the forum Barry...and to the hobby (there is no escape, muwahahaha)! Congrats on your first finds and looking forward to your posts in the future.

I know the feeling, pretty much happened the same way for me
Good Luck

I got my Ace 250 for Christmas and I am hooked on it too. I've been doing this for 30 years with the same old Garrett Deep Seeker and I have to say I wish I had the Ace 250 all of those years. It will take a little getting used to but it is a fine machine. Good luck and don't give up even when you dig 100 pull tabs in a row because the next one might be a little engagement ring with a great big diamond!!!!!!!!!!

Barry...hold on tight and be prepared for a load of fun.
Your new machine will find a LOT of stuff and the value of what you find is nearly only limited by the time you spend both in the field and in the library and online researching places to hunt.
A few quick tips:
-Look into the age of the schools in your area
-Use either Google Earth and/ot Windows Live Local to see satellite and airplane images of these areas.
-Start out hunting the oldest of these spots to increase your odds of finding both LOTS of modern coinage(clad) and older coins (silver)
-Make sure you obtain permission any time you have a doubt about whether you can legally hunt ANY area
-keep your plugs small and be aware of your surroundings
-have fun (a given in this hobby)

HH (an acronym for Happy Hunting)

Welcome aboard,

Glad to have you with us. This is a great site with a lot of super people. Congrats on the great finds your first time out with your first detector. I wish I found what you did my first time out.
It definetly sounds like you have been bit by the treasure bug and now have an incurable case of treasure fever. Good luck. Hope to see pics of your finds.

Way to grow, Us Texans are getting thick around here.

Welcome to TN and the wonderful world of metal detecting!

Just remember not to make a mess with the plugs. ;) I actually met my towns school athletic director today on a field I was detecting. He thanked me for
cleaning all the dangerous metal from the field and shook my hand.

I've dug at least 1000 plugs in that field and you wouldn't know it.

Otherwise go crazy and have a BLAST! Good luck and HH!

:) Welcome to the forum Barry! and Way to GO! :)

Isn't it something how a few swings with these magic metalic wands can open your eyes and mind to a whole new level? ;D Until you swing one yourself, you just do not know the kinds of ideas and feelings that can come over you, because of a metal detector! ;) Sure sounds like you snagged yourself the perfect machine for yourself in the bargain too. ;) Glad you joined our flock Barry and I'll be looking forward to your future posts. 8)
