Detector(s) used
Minelab Go-Find 60, Bounty hunter tracker IV
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
So I went detecting for the first time since my surgery and had a killer day. Went to my normal stomping grounds (mothers beach in Marina Del Rey, CA, also known as the trashiest beach in the area). Most detectors know both aforementioned facts and never hit that beach. I hit it with my bounty hunter tracker on all metal and dig more clad than I do trash.

Today was a foreign coin day. I found way more than normal. I normally only find 1 if any but I found 4 today.

My favorite find is the 1964 Kennedy half dollar with only a little tarnish. Dug it out of the clay layer completely covered in hardened black colored grit so I tossed it in the iron bag without realizing. After breaking it out of the nasty tar tar like encrusted ball of sand and silt I was shocked at how shiny the rim was then I wiped it off and found how perfectly preserved it was in whatever that crud was while I was in my break at my security job and nearly crapped my pants. First silver coin I have ever detected/dug and it came out of my scrap bag.

Also happened within a week of finding very old silver change in a cash register at a hardware store and asking for it. Figured I would ride the luck and it paid off.

Btw that thing that looks like it's trying to be a ring, it's sterling silver and stamped .925 lol

Very nice find on the JFK silver mate. One of the more difficult to notch off the bucket list due to the short amount of time they produced. I have recovered a coin encrusted in "black stuff" as you described and it too seemed to preserve the detail of the coin as you stated. It also was in a sandy area. Great hunt. Congrats.:headbang:

Congrats on your first of many silvers!

Congratulations on a beautiful first.
I have yet to find a silver Kennedy.

Hey buddy, congrats on your first silver coin. Man, that feeling will never go away. My first silver was a Merc/Rosie duet in a hole. Unforgettable!

Here's to many more!!

Cheers

That is a very nice way to break the ice digging silver ! Kennedy halfs with any silver content are a tough find to dig with a detector.
