After purchasing my very first detector, I practiced in the backyard for a few days and planned our first trip out. I wanted to go to a Ghosttown and got directions from Mapquest. Longer story short the directions were incorrect. Knowing the area fairly well we went to Plan "B" to log a few hours on my new machine. I set the machine on all auto in all modes and kept a log of the target numbers to learn discrimination and for further reference. After several hours of cleaning up the environment, a brass bell (not an old one) and three pennies later we decided to take the long way out. Bound and determined to find our original destination, I pulled down a very private (permission only) road to see if I could get directions from local. A very nice man told me where he thought it was but he had never been there. After following very vague directions I turned on to a dirt road and came to a one lane bridge in my Avalanche ( my wife is not too comfortable at this point). Upon successfully traversing the bridge, we traveled 3/4's of a mile down a one lane road; low and behold we reached our original destination (on private land). If you are wondeing about the name of the ghosttown it is Timbuktu. As with my approach to gold prospecting; the real treasure is spent outdoors with my wife with no worries; any spoils gained along the way are "icing on the cake". It was a great day!
