First day out with the Sand Shark was fun but man is water hunten tuff

Well I decided to hit the Beach. I hit Santa Monica beach The weather was sunny but overcast in the afternoon. I had to find a scuba shop in the area to buy some silicon grease for the seal on the sand sharks battery department and also found a cool plastic pouch they sold me as we'll to put my keys and I'd in to keep dry. I started out in vco mode which I liked way more than the normal mode. I set my volume and threshold and put the pulse setting to the factory recommended and was off. I had hunted beaches before with regular detectors but man do pi,s go deep.I must of dug 30 penny's at least. I also dug some nickels pull tabs and some soda can tops and quarters. I also found some dimes a lead wait misc iron and trash and a ladies hoop earring and I think what are 2 small cheap rings and a small bracelet. The Vco is pretty cool it gives you a faint tone when there deeper targets. The coil occasionally had to be put back in position from the waves etc like I've read with the 10.5 inch coils. I hunted about 6 hours there wasnt to much and no gold but its also winter wich doesn't help. There also was another guy detecting there with a pi. All and all I like the sand Shark very much and it works well on dry and wet sand. But I think I've never hunted where it was this tuff or physically demanding. Parks are so much easier. Happy hunting to all.

way to go for first time out with it, hope tomorrow finds the yellow metal

Thanks Firemac I'm gona need a few days to recover lol. Hunting water is an animal like no other.

Welcome to the world of water hunting. Anything worth doing has a price to pay and will pay off. You will do well, just keep working. In about a month of hard hunting I guarantee you will have paid for your machine. What other hobby can you make that claim? Nice first day. Check the insides of the rings closely for stamp marks. Silver will turn black.

Thanks search and recovery it was fun and the Sand Shark is a pretty neat machine though i must confess my arm kinda feels like a carried a barrel around for 6 hours lol.
But i guess 4 pounds isn't too bad for a pi. Happy hunting and thanks

Nice post, Trackerman:thumbsup:

That hoop earring looks as if it is silver ; you might want to clean it with some Tarn-X and check it out.

Trackerman, Welcome to the world of wet and mean waves. I did not see you, but my bud did. He was wearing a short wet suit and I was wearing a bib wet suit. He was in the water while I cruised the wet and dry. I used my minelab at first then switched to the duel field. The water was tooooo cold for me. Waiting for the water to warm a bit then I will be in at least waist deep. Give a shout when you are out and about. Being retired is a good thing. In the summer I go everywhere up and down the coast. Congratulations Brother Sand Shark hunter! Pretty good for your first time out with it! The coil "flip ups" will happen a lot less once you get your technique down, and don't neglect running in NORMAL mode. You'll find some very deep stuff in Normal, in fact, almost ALL of my deep gold has been found in Normal mode. Keep swinging, and get IN the water at least knee-deep at low tide.

Will do on the normal mode and thanks guys and gals for the welcome on water hunting. It's a lot of fun but I'm gona need to borrow Popeyes arms when I go beach hunting. If I see you guys at Santa Monica or else where you cant miss me ill be wearing a Garrett at Pro Hat that's my favorite land machine by a long shot.
But hunting the beach with a Pi is sure special. Water was about 58 here in Cali wasn't too bad. Good luck to all and happy hunting.

Not too bad for your first time out with the new machine.
Don't feel too bad, I went out here today on the east coast after a storm hit yesterday and only got a dime, 1/2 can of Coke and a few pieces of foil for 3 hours work in the wet sand at low tide.
It was still relaxing and better than a good day at work.
Just remember, all you need is one ring and you will pay off your machine.
Happy hunting

Dam that's tuff bro. Beaches are hunted harder than parks . But summer should be nice . Thanks again and HH

If interested, try these settings. In VCO mode of course. Works awesome on a shark!
