The new At Pro arrived Wednesday from New England Detectors... Not bad considering I ordered it Friday afternoon online just before a pretty serious winter storm, and Monday being a holiday. The beach scoop that comes with the package should get here today, but I couldn't wait and went out yesterday for a test drive.

I started at a small kids park at a town beach and found most of the coins, then the hotel room key not to far away on the beach. I was digging everything to start, then started to slightly understand the sounds... Slightly. Biggest issue for me wasn't pull tabs so much, I think it was discriminating those pretty well, it was the whole beer cans at 16 inches! Sounded just like a quater... Did I mention I was foot digging cause the darn scoop is not here yet?

Anyway, I had a blast and the tracking numer says the scoop is supposed to be here today... So my first night hunt is scheduled for this evening! image.webp

Hey Man...You will have some good finds with that machine...Funny because I too had the same issue with the cans...the best way to check it is to raise the coil up and if you are still getting it with the coil 5 inches off the ground...its something big...My biggest issue was the flat pieces of iron and screw off tops, they get me everyone once in awhile and read like really good coins when they are deep.

Good Luck Man!!

Also learning my new AT Pro haha nice finds!!

Another way to tell if its a can is to use the pin pointer to tell how wide and how long the object is. If the pin pointer meter stays pegged for a few inches either direction then its a can. A quarter or other coin would only stay pegged for a slight movement either direction.

Hi All: I got to Go to FLA for 8 days NICE // took the ATPRO and got out several times,, Bro in Law and I did a cpl beaches and a cpl parking lots but had the best luck in a huge field used for big events// still lots of fun// Perry

BUT// the same problem ---A buried beer can at 8+" gives an 85 signal//// there were 100s of them// WE stopped digging if it was 6" ore more deep///

nice finds congrats happy hunting

like anything the more practise you get the better off you will be.just starting out i recomend digging everything especially digging in the sandy beach area.i think it helps you to better understand what your machine is telling you.good luck and happy hunting

Guys // No pinpointer that I know of can reach a can at 8" Nor should it /// Perry

I think they are refering to the meter VDI reading. I agree no handheld pinpointer will run that depth.

Use this technique, it works every time. Have fun out there. I use my AT Pro at least 10 hours a week. I got it about 4 months ago and I'm just now REALLY understanding what it's telling me. Keep it up and you'll love your machine as much as I do :)

I was referring to the pin point bar on the screen. The more bars on the screen the closer to the object you are. You can "measure" an object this way.

Pinpointer on the machine using the signal bars at the top.
But my pistol probe goes REAL deep. Probably 6 inches on a can. But can dial it back to an inch for the small stuff

Looks like your off to a good start.
