I saw a yard sale listing show up late in the day on Sunday. 11am. I got there around 2pm. I immediately saw a beer tap for a buck. They always sell. Should get $20.

Then I saw a section of jewelry. Tiffany necklace, some other sterling and a ring I assumed was fake.

I ask about the necklace and she says it was $200 new. I ask about the pendant and she said it was $75 new. Finally, I ask about the ring. She says it was real diamonds, sapphire, and silver. At this point I am looking at a worn out 14k mark on the ring. She said it was appraised at $350 but pawn shops only buy gold.

I offered her $100 for everything including the tap and other sterling and she says sure.

Anyway....sterling tests good and so does gold in the ring. I don't really know stones, but sapphire is 7x5mm. Diamonds are 3mm in diameter. I don't know if they are real but think they are. Any thoughts on ring value?

HH,
sdb

I dunno about the Tiffany, two things to check for are 1. the links should be perfectly rounded & seamless, and 2. clasp should be marked on the back/spine near the bale. Hope it's just me though, that's a nice piece! I really like the nautilus pendant too.

Nice finds Bill. The Tiffany photo doesn't show enough detail to be sure it's authentic but it looks like it might be okay from what I can see. Although I would expect it to have been more than $200 new if purchased from an authorized Tiffany dealer. Here is a link for you to check out so you can look it over more closely yourself and decide if it's authentic.- Fake Tiffany Lobster Clasp | Stamp | Toggle I like that nautilus pedant too, or is it an ammonite fossil? I think it may be an ammonite fossil, it looks agatized. I bought a similar sapphire/diamond ring with slightly smaller stones for the wife the Christmas before last off eBay. I paid a couple hundred for it. It was white gold 14k. I would think that $350 est. was correct, they are always a little high.

edit- btw, are you sure the diamonds are only 3mm, they look bigger?

Great bundle. You did well.

ALWAYS...
And I mean always...
Test anything marked Tiffany.

More fake than real out there.

Thanks for the link! After looking at the link, I am confident it is real. Just needs a good polish.

I know there are a lot of fakes out there. Besides testing which you really can't do at a yard sale, I find talking to the seller is useful. While talking to this seller, she said she was moving, mention jewelry was from boyfriend, and didn't sound like he was moving too. Figured she just wanted to unload it.

Looks great, congrats! My first and only Tiffany score was a genuine Peretti teardrop ring and a fake-as-hell toggle bracelet for a buck (or less) each. I see so much ugly fake T&Co that I have probably overlooked something good by disregarding most of it.

Thanks.

I don't think the shell is a fossil. Although, it does look like that in picture. Back is filled with some type of epoxy.

Diamonds could be 4mm, but no more than that.

The beauty of there being more fake than real of something is that the real stuff often gets assumed to be fake and you can buy it cheap.

A buddy was buying an arrowhead collection and took a look at the guy's frame of fakes that this guy had bought and then discovered they weren't real. My buddy bought the frame that was "too good to be true" for nothing, then made a ton of money off a couple that turned out not to be too good to be true.

I have done well on Tiffany because of the number of fakes as well! I bought a jewelry jar for $150 last week and sold a TINY double heart "return to Tiffany:necklace and pendant for $84.00. That necklace should do very well. If you are near a Tiffany's...they will polish it for about $20 and give you a pouch and bag to go with it. It increases the value and being able to show that receipt in an auction shows authenticity since Tiffany does NOT authenticate...but they will refuse to polish anything not theirs. Its how I get my Tiffany jewelry checked.

Thx for this advice. I am going to do this. Prices seem to range from $80 to $120. I figure if I sell around Xmas I should get closer to the high end.

Off topic, but I really find contemporary Tiffany jewelry to be very tacky. This piece reminds me of a dog collar. As long as it sells, I don't care. :)

HH this weekend.
