I bought a dime box today because I'm waiting for my halves to come in and couldn't help but look through something. Also got 10 rolls of halves which had one 40%. I went through the rolls when I came home and it wasn't too bad! Found two silver roosevelts and found my first merc! (I have a couple from my grandma but nothing found). I keep opening the rolls and a couple rolls later I find another merc! Two in one box! Not too bad :D

Congrats on the good luck.. I've had bad luck in my first box and $150 cwr of dimes. I'm going to get about 3 more boxes and if I don't find silver, I'm done.

congrats I cant wait to start my first hunt!

For those whose sole motivation for this hobby / addiction is to just find silver then you wont be around long as wild silver is not pleantiful. It is out there but not often found in serious quantities

Im not sure wether to root for the skunk or root for finds....:laughing7: according to serious dime hunters (Doc and Mi Hunter) they average 1.2 - 1.5 dimes per box but also get several skunks along the way.

Myself as well as others here get enjoyment and excitement from opening an looking at the history we hold in our hands via coins. Take the hobby for what it is and not for what you can get out of it an maybe you will find some enjoyment.

Well, aren't silver the only old dimes to look for? I know there is like a 1982 no mint mark, but what else is there besides errors?

Also, when I said give up, I meant just dimes. I appreciate nickles much more, and pennies too.
