Been in California allot longer than expected due to girlfriends illness(Probably will have to move here due to her insurance). Well, After reading Capt_SE's finds from the beach got me motivated finally to take the drive from the valley to the beach(Only about 30-45 minutes) except in California ya got to much traffic so more like 1-2 hours depending on freeway or side roads. Anyway the low tide was at 5:30 pm so I left at 1:30 so's to beat the traffic and have some time to hunt before the low. I used the Sovereign Elite And man what a difference, no chatter at all( It's never been near salt water so wasn't sure how it would be, only have had it a few months and don't use it much do to the fact I've only used Tesoro's for years. I got to the beach and it was just starting to recede so I just kicked back and enjoyed the scenery if you know what I mean(Ha,Ha). About 45 minutes later I started my hunt going straight for the wet sand, within about 5 minutes get a signal and it was a memorial then another after about 15 minutes I get a deep signal and start digging about a foot and a half I hit the hard surface and still the target is still in the hole, So I put the scoop into the hole and step down hard into the hard pack and I recheck the hole "Got It", start shaking the scoop and there it was a mans wedding band the size of a quarter. I was stoked, first time hunting the beach and got gold. Not allot of signals but did manage a few quarters, a sac dollar, the fake lock w/ heart, a three connected ring thing that says 14k but from Korea(who knows), and some trash. I would like to thank Captn_SE for motivating me to get out there. I have bought a pulse machine that should be here next Thursday, can't wait. Also as you can see in the picture I killed my scoop, does anyone know of a sturdy scoop???

Thanks for looking
Bass

When I started water hunting, someone gave me one of those scoops, and mine looks a lot like yours does now. I have purchased a Diamond Head and can attest to its sturdiness. It also weighs a lot. It took me several hunts to get used to the weight. If you can handle it, get one, they rock. If not, get an aluminum scoop with a big mouth, the bigger the better.

i use this one

Nice ring & charm to bad about your scoop, check out RTG, Kevin is a heck of a guy to deal with. So is Travis at Nuttall.

Thanks for the Info. everyone

i use RTG and love em!

Congrats on the Gold and welcome to the fantastic world of water hunting. You will find the Sovereign is great for salt water, I own 2 Sovereign GT's, one for in the surf one for land.

Several good scoops out there, you need one that you can stand on like a shovel.
As stated Nuttal is good, and so is the original Beach Brute, and Beach Brute II, I have owned both.

What I like about the brute over the others is it has a wider bite, a 8.5 inch bite. The only mod I have done on mine is to add a screen to the bottom third to help catch tiny targets, and a handle grip to help raise it when in the surf.

hey kaptainkosmic

is that one of the chuck look alike scoops made by pro???? - Mi or Pa

i like the small holes - what size are they

i like it.................va beach david has one like it, but holes are bigger and it is god awful heavy.

like dixie, i have always been a kevin reily fan - http://www.rtgstore.com/

I also Like the RTG scoops they are made of aluminum and are very light (about 4 .5 Lbs) take a big bite (not as big as the Nutall 5.5 Lbs) but not as heavy either...

You've got the handle already so go to a feed store and buy a galvanized grain scoop, they come in two sized small and large. Remove the handle off the grain scoop and replace it with the hardware off you damaged scoop. Drill some 3/8" holes and you got a new scoop for a fraction of the cost of a brand new scoop. A lot of TH'ers will point you to Big Brute scoops and they are great. But I used one of these grain scoop sifters for 8 years. It's great if your budget is tight.

Congrats on the gold, and first ever hunt on the beach to boot. I would like to say that I would of loved to say I found gold my first day out, but that was not the case. Had it been, I probably would of done something stupid like quit my job and never leave the beach ;D Which on days like this still doesn't seem like a bad ideal ;D

I would like to thank Captn_SE for motivating me to get out there.

Hello Bass!! I rarely view this section of Tnet, but decided to tonight, and I came across your post completely by accident.

Thanks for mentioning my name and how I motivated you to get out there. That's awesome you were able to find a gold ring on your first hunt at the beach!!

Your Sov. is a great machine for the beach. What pulse machine did you order? I'm really liking my SE on the beach now. I sold my older Whites Surfmaster PI to a local friend of mine.
I would rather look for deep silver in the turf, but since I live so close to the beaches, it feels good to swing my machine along the surf and dig everything that makes a beep.

Let's see you get another!

Congrats,
CAPTN SE

Welcome to the most addictive part of the hobby....beach hunting. Congrats on the nice finds.

I have been in the hobby for about 3 or 4 years now and just started heavy into the water hunting. Almost everytime I get out there I find something good. I even dream of this stuff now every night, it used to be with girls :tongue3: ...joking.

Sorry about your scoop, it reminds me of my first. Mine ended up looking like a pretzel. Everyone has their personal choice for a scoop so you may need to try out a few. If you have a local shop near you go by there and try out some. I had a nuttel and loved it. Right now I have a beach brute. It digs a lot of material per scoop and is usually right on with the first dig.

Sorry about your girlfriend. I hope she will feel better with you visiting her more.

Good luck on the next hunts....post pictures.
